The Tweed Heads South Centre includes 2 indoor pools:

  • 25 m 6 lane pool heated to a warm 28 degrees Celsius
  • 13 m teaching pool heated to 32 degrees Celsius.

The centre caters to everyone with fitness programs suited for the older person, as well as Learn to Swim classes and training squads for the younger members of the community.

History of Tweed Heads South pool

The Tweed South Indoor Swimming Complex was opened on 18 December 1980. It was the first public indoor aquatic centre in the Tweed or near the Gold Coast.

This indoor-heated facility has a 25 m, 6 lane lap pool and a 13 m Learn to Swim pool.

The centre recently separated the teaching pool filtration from the 25 m pool and added a new pool heater. The water in the 13 m pool has increased to 32 degrees Celsius for the Learn to Swim program.

Staff can provide some assistance in the operation of the mobility lift. It is expected that if your disability requires a care person they should accompany you to assist.

Lap lane guidelines

To ensure your lap swimming session is enjoyable please follow the lap lane guidelines:

  • treat other swimmers with mutual respect and courtesy
  • check the lap lane signage and swim in the appropriate lanes
  • select a lane based on your ability, the speed of others in the lane, and the stroke(s) you intend to swim during your visit
  • while swimming keep to the left side of the lane
  • if you need to pass a swimmer in front, swim past on the right, ensuring that there is room to pass without interfering with oncoming swimmers
  • stay aware of other swimmers to avoid collision
  • when waiting at the end of the pool, move across towards the corners of the lane to allow other swimmers to continue swimming laps
  • please do not be offended if a lifeguard asks you to move to another lane.
